Our House review Martin Compston turns domestic bliss into a living hell Television & radio

our house

Over the years, they have children, paint the walls dark blue, put in parquet flooring and big glass sliding doors – then they stop tickling each other. The relationship finally falls apart when Fi comes home one night to catch Bram getting up to some excessively neighbourly behaviour in the shed. It’s a good question, but one the opening episode doesn’t really try to answer. Instead, this four-parter, an adaptation of Louise Candlish’s 2018 novel, is standard ITV thriller territory, perfectly watchable, basically functional, if not particularly fresh.

Who’s in the cast?

It’s the kind of song that gets stuck in your head, because the first time you hear it, you feel as if you’ve heard it a hundred times before. Fi walks around her empty former home repeating “This is my house”, and, given that I watched every single episode of the surprise BBC gameshow hit of that name, I couldn’t help but start to sing its theme tune. Billed as an "edge of your seat thriller", Our House sees a woman arrive home one day only to find strangers have moved in... Following the death of his son, Gus Witherspoon takes in his daughter-in-law and his three grandchildren to live with him. Adjustment to the new arrangement is not easy on any of them.Following the death of his son, Gus Witherspoon takes in his daughter-in-law and his three grandchildren to live with him.

Our House is an American drama television series that aired on NBC for two seasons from September 11, 1986, to May 8, 1988. The series centers on the Witherspoon family and the challenges they face adjusting to life with three generations living in the same house. The first step would be to review the Camper Eligibility Checklist and encourage the camper’s parent/guardian to complete an application.

Jessie and the kids eventually learn that beneath Gus' stern facade is a wise man, well versed in the ways of the world, who cares about them very much. But there wouldn’t be a drama if they had sold up and moved on peacefully, accepting that their relationship had run its course. And maybe the mysterious grandeur of the house will be explained in the episodes to come. There is an intriguing trail of breadcrumbs that hints at Bram’s ability to keep secrets. There are small fibs everywhere, and then, just when it appears to be a domestic drama with a property-porn twist, a bigger one explodes on to the screen.

As mentioned, Our House is based on the best-selling novel by Louise Candlish of the same name and given the award-winning bestseller’s popularity, the series is expected to be similarly gripping. The plot centres on Fiona Lawson (Middleton), who arrives back to her home in London to find strangers moving in and her belongings no longer there. Per ITV’s synopsis, at first she thinks her home was sold by accident, but upon discovering her husband Bram has gone missing, she soon realised there’s much more going on. Told in a series of flashbacks, Our House is a story of betrayal and mystery and may just have you questioning your own memories. Based on Louise Candlish's popular novel, ITV’s new thriller Our House is set to have audiences on the edge of their seats.

Camp volunteers are extraordinary people who make a big difference in the lives of grieving children. OUR HOUSE is able to serve hundreds of campers every year thanks to the dedication and generous hearts of our camp volunteers. We flash back to 10 years earlier, when Fi and her husband, Bram (Martin Compston), come across the house they will turn into a World of Interiors magazine spread. They are so happy and in love that they tickle each other as they strip wallpaper. The house is huge and incredible, and appears to be in London, which made me spend far more time than I should have wondering how they could have afforded it. They both have generic middle-class jobs, in offices with lumbar support chairs and big glass windows, but, even so, that house must have cost a fortune.

our house

To keep the OUR HOUSE community safe, campers and guardians are advised to stay home, rest, and recuperate if experiencing symptoms of illness before camp begins. Add it to your Watchlist to receive updates and availability notifications. Each of the episode's five acts (before the commercial break) ends with a freeze frame shot which then occupies one of several rooms in an abstract rendering of a house figure. As the episode unfolds, more rooms are filled until finally—when the dilemma has been resolved—the final piece is put in place, completing the house. Fi must face losing the house, turning to Toby for support--but he has secrets of his own.

But, for now, at least, we’ll just have to sit back and wait for an official announcement. Per Radio Times, Compston previously revealed that he is “absolutely delighted” to be appearing in the forthcoming drama. “The scripts are genuinely thrilling, packed with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end,” the actor commented. David started out as a writer for TV Times before becoming the title's deputy features editor and then features editor. During his time on TV Times, David also helped run the annual TV Times Awards. David is a huge Death in Paradise fan, although he's still failed to solve a case before the show's detective!

“This is not an intimate relationship, it’s a practical arrangement,” says the woman tasked with drawing up a contract for them. The same could be said of this first episode, which is so level-headed it’s crying out for the jolt of energy that comes towards the end, when hints of a greater deception finally, finally start to emerge. A young genius accidentally invents a device that amplifies the paranormal activity within his family's house, possibly bringing back the spirits of loved ones, and unleashing things far wor...

OUR HOUSE also offers Spanish speaking groups, medical and professional grief education training and on-site grief response services. Any child or teen ages 6-17 who has experienced the human death of someone significant/close to them. The death must have occurred at least 3 months before, and within 3 years of the camp session date they wish to attend.

The first look of the four-part series shows Compston in character, as troubled husband Bram Lawson, and teasers the stellar cast, too. If the book is anything to go by, Our House will be packed with plenty of “twists and turns” and a "nail-biting finale," per the show synopsis. Fi is shocked when she returns home to discover that strangers have moved into her house.

Where to Watch

The OUR HOUSE mission is to provide the community with grief support services, education, resources, and hope. Since 1993, OUR HOUSE has helped thousands of grieving children, teens, and adults as they embark upon their journeys to hope and healing. Join us this summer at Camp Erin LA, a free camp experience for children & teens who are grieving the death of someone significant/close. Camp Erin combines traditional camp experiences with grief support activities to provide a day of hope and healing. Under the guidance of grief professionals, kids learn that their feelings are normal – and that by talking about them they can begin to heal.

Cast & Crew

Before working for What To Watch, David spent many years working for TV Times magazine, interviewing some of television's most famous stars including Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland, singer Lionel Richie and wildlife legend Sir David Attenborough. As we flashback in time to see scenes of Fi and Bram together, she starts to unpick her life and discover Bram’s hidden past... Events then quickly spiral out of control, as a string of secrets is unearthed. The book Our House became an international bestseller and the television adaptation promises to be just as gripping. Our House, featuring an all-star cast including Line of Duty’s Martin Compston, is a big new drama based on the hit book by Louise Candlish.

As long as an 18 year-old will still be enrolled in (not graduated from) high school at the time they attend camp, they are eligible to apply for camp. Camp Erin is named in memory of Erin Metcalf, a friend of Karen and Jamie Moyer who died of cancer at age 17. After his son John dies, retired widower Gus Witherspoon (Wilford Brimley) invites his daughter-in-law Jessica Witherspoon (Deidre Hall) and her three children to move to Los Angeles and live with him until Jessie gets back on her feet financially. Unfortunately, Our House is yet to receive an official air date, but we appear to be edging closer. ITV teased on Feb. 1 that the new series is “coming soon to ITV and ITV Hub” and the air date is expected to be confirmed by the broadcaster for Spring 2022.

Early snaps from the upcoming thriller also sees Tuppence Middleton, known for playing Lucy Smith in the 2019 Downton Abbey film, take on the role of Fiona. The first look shots also portray Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You) as Fiona’s best friend and neighbour, Merle; Whitechapel and Spooks actor Rupert Penry-Jones as Toby, meanwhile, Buket Komura will play the mysterious character of Wendy.

Camp Erin combines traditional camp activities with grief support, education and remembrance projects and ceremonies. Campers navigate a rock wall; engage in arts and crafts; and enjoy other activities designed to encourage and promote healing. Camp Erin allows children a chance to share their thoughts, feelings, and memories about the person who died with their peers. They participate in memorial ceremonies as well as outdoor activities that allow them to enjoy the freedom of childhood. They attempt to separate in the least disruptive way possible for the sake of their boys by “birdnesting”, which involves renting a flat across the road, and taking it in turns to live in the house, so the children don’t have to move.

our house

I couldn’t understand the decision to “birdnest” rather than sell the house. Their disdain for the “studio” flat they share, an ex-local authority place with a drippy tap and non-fancy curtains that is far nicer than at least 70% of the flats I lived in in London, is hilarious. Elsewhere, co-star Middleton described working on the ITV offering as a “fantastic opportunity,” adding that her character’s “immense relatability” is what first drew her to the role. “It’s a story where you catch a glimpse of yourself in the characters, and you get the chilling realisation that what happens to Fi could happen to anyone,” she explained.

Grieving children, teens and adults deserve the opportunity to experience the healing process in a safe, warm and nurturing environment. The healing process is enhanced through the friendships and connections that are developed in support groups. Despite protests from her children, fifteen-year-old Kris (Shannen Doherty); twelve-year-old David (Chad Allen); and eight-year-old Molly (Keri Houlihan) they, Jessie, and their basset hound Arthur leave Fort Wayne, Indiana, to start a new life in California. As they settle in with Gus, they realize just how difficult he can be to live with. The majority of the plots each week centers on the conflicts which tend to arise when an extended family must live together in the same house. As man of the house, Gus imposes rules on his three grandkids the same way he had raised John (and also John's brother Ben, who is seen in a two part episode); ultimately, however, he learns ways of conveying lessons to the kids without being gruff.

With unprecedented access, ONE LAST HUG illuminates the effects of death and grief on children. Its inspiring and emotional journey is intimate, cathartic, and a testament to the healing power of friendship and support. At OUR HOUSE, we provide essential grief support for a universal experience that deserves heightened understanding and acceptance. Our programs serve adults, teens, children and toddlers, which include grief support groups that are specific to the age of the griever, length of time since the death, and the relationship to the person who died.

The porters are the people who will help you with yourluggage, including taking to the ship if you’ve arranged to check it inadvance. They can also direct you to the parking garage and answer anyquestions you may have. Because the parking garage is part of the cruise terminal, it’s under thesame security umbrella as everything else. In addition to the overall terminalsecurity, the sheer volume of activity and the near constant presence of peoplemake it difficult to go around breaking into cars there. For example, the Port of Los Angeles has more than 2,500 individual parking spaces.

Serving many major cruise lines, this port offers a secure parking lot at a fee of $64 for 3 days. The Port of Los Angeles has a wide variety of parking options and an abundance of parking spots. All vehicles are parked in a secured outside lot with multiple transportation options on-site.

As with any form of long-distance travel, figuring out what to do with your car while you’re on a cruise can be one of the most challenging and frustrating aspects of planning your trip. Some people choose to have someone drive them to the terminal and pick them up, and some will choose to use services like Uber and Lyft. Taxi services are readily available from LAX along with ridesharing apps, including Uber and Lyft. Taxis are located on the arrivals level of the airport while rideshare passengers may walk or take a shuttle to the rideshare lot. When comparing the prices, consider not only the daily rate but also any additional fees that may apply, such as fees for oversized vehicles or reserved parking. Additionally, take into account the services provided by each facility, including shuttle frequency, security measures, and customer reviews. If you choose to park on-site, it’s recommended to arrive early in order to secure a parking space, especially during peak travel seasons. The parking facility operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and spaces can fill up quickly. One of the advantages of on-site parking is the proximity to the cruise terminal, which allows for a short walk from your vehicle to the ship.

Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is more than just an amazing cruise port, it’s also one of the most accessible ports for parking during your vacation. The well-illuminated parking lot is patrolled by security around-the-clock and disabled parking is available. Standard parking costs are $15 per day and parking for oversized vehicles is $19 per day. After a day of exploration, unwind with a refreshing drink at one of the ship’s many bars and lounges. Indulge in the delicious cuisine offered at the onboard restaurants, ranging from casual buffets to elegant fine dining experiences. When researching cruise lines, it is important to read reviews from past passengers. These reviews can provide valuable insights into the overall experience, including the quality of service, the variety of onboard activities, and the dining options. It is also helpful to look for reviews that mention specific amenities or features that are important to you.

On top of that, we’ll stack your benefits with our own and private offers. These ports of call, each with their captivating history and allure, are just a taste of what Japan has to offer. Engaging with local customs and sampling the cuisines at each destination not only enhances the cruising experience but also enriches my understanding of this diverse and vibrant country.

Travel Is Our Tradition

The best part of cruising to Japan from the US is arguably the culinary journey. Onboard dining options typically encompass global cuisines, including authentic Japanese meals that prep my palate for the upcoming onshore indulgences. My taste buds are tantalized by the prospect of dining on sushi prepared by skilled chefs in Tokyo or savoring a bowl of steaming ramen in Fukuoka. Stay tuned as I unveil the secrets to making the most of your cruise experience, from must-see sights to onboard amenities that’ll make your trip unforgettable. Let’s set sail on a journey that promises the allure of the Land of the Rising Sun with every nautical mile. A casual, modern marketplace, Lido Market offers the widest range of food options on board for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a late-night snack.

In summer, experience cold soba noodles with a small bowl of dipping sauce, or slurp up hot broth and tempura prawn in the cold winter months. Start the climb up Mt. Fuji in Shimizu, and let yourself be wowed by the volcano's incredible scale. Old temples wafting with incense, impressive castles jutting into the sky and tatami-clad wooden homes await you with an air of magnificence. Enter a world of towering mountains, breathtaking landscapes and ancient culture in Japan.

Step into Japan’s ancient past with a tour of Aomori’s Sannai-Maruyama ruins, which date back 5,500 years and are designated a Special National Historical Site. Get a bird’s-eye view of Tokyo and Mount Fuji from the special observatory atop Tokyo Tower. Wander through the narrow, winding streets of Kanazawa’s samurai district known as Nagamachi Samurai House Row, which sits at the foot of Kanazawa Castle. Be dazzled by the panoramic views of Japan's iconic Mount Fuji, an active volcano and the most popular tourist site in the country. We will also offer you a credit from $300 to $3,000 for your post-cruise tours Japan. Besides that, we will huge discounts for other adventure tours in Japan.

As I wander the streets of Japanese ports, I’m humbled by the warmth of the locals. Interactions with fishmongers, shopkeepers, and everyday citizens aren’t just transactions; they’re opportunities to practice my Japanese and greet someone with a respectful bow. Stop by the professionally staffed Fitness Center equipped with the latest cardio and weight machines. Try one of our classes on indoor cycling, Pilates and more or work out at your own pace.

It’s a gateway to immerse myself in a culture that’s steeped in history and rich in tradition. Japanese culture is a complex tapestry, woven from centuries-old customs to contemporary pop phenomena, and everything in between. Known for its exuberant street life and gastronomic indulgence, Osaka is a vibrant spot to explore on Japan’s main island, Honshu. Here, I love to dive into the local culture through its food – especially the region’s famous takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). My experience suggests that no matter which route you choose, the journey to Japan by sea is filled with anticipation and exploration. There’s always the promise of waking up to a new skyline or sunset that brings each traveler closer to the allure of Japan, one nautical mile at a time.

You'll also sail to Hakodate, a port famous for its fresh seafood, hot springs, and stunning mountain views. Marvel at the majesty of Mt. Fuji and enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in Kochi. On your next vacation, cruise to Japan with Celebrity for cultural immersion in luxury and style. Some of these ports, like the famous capital city of Tokyo, offer a city experience full of skyscrapers, fine dining, and a chance to witness the day-to-day life of many who live in Japan. Other ports you’ll visit during a cruise around Japan provide a more tranquil setting with opportunities to get out into nature and visit ancient temples and shrines.
